The green forester (Adscita statices) is a diurnal moth that stands out due to its metallic green-blue sheen. It overwinters as an inconspicuous caterpillar, which hides in a web on the ground within the leaf litter. The caterpillars hatch in late summer, feed only briefly, and then retreat for hibernation. It is not until spring that they continue their development, pupating in June. The species is widespread throughout Central Europe. It can be found from northern Spain up to Scandinavia, eastwards to Western Siberia, and in the Alps at altitudes of up to 1500 m above sea level. Both damp meadows and dry heathlands are part of the habitat of this iridescent moth.
